How Old Do I Need To Be To Get My Boating License?

I am 15, and want to know how old you have to be to operate a PWC (jet ski) by myself. Also are there any sites that let you get them for free? One site looks like they want you to be 16. But can i lie saying I’m 16 and get the license? Its not a serious license, its a safety license, so im thinking i could lie like a Fake ID. Please help. Thanks.

If you are in the United States, it all depens on the state where you live. Technically, there is no “boating license”. However, many states require you to either complete boating safety courses or have a drivers license.

To take the boaters safety exam you do not have to be 16 for any state that I know of. To operate a PWC varies by state and it you have been looking at boater safety sites you know or can find the requirements for your state. Very few states allow operation of PWC by yourself for persons under the age of 16, some states you need to be 18.
You will need to be able to show and ID to the Marine Police if stopped or to the the person in charge if your are renting. They are trained to spot fake Id’s . Just the fact that you are willing to lie and you not think that it is serious makes for a dangerous combination.
You want help – OK here it is! Wait until you 16, then enjoy what you can do.

Check out the website for boating rules in your state. If the requirements for a PWC are for you to be 16, then wait until you are the proper age. Your trying to get around rules is EXACTLY why they have the rules. The younger the person, the more likely they will get into trouble on the water by NOT following safe boating rules.
The rules are only there to protect EVERYONE on the water, so follow them. Be responsible and follow the rules.
